So a human would have a limited life and would die someday. Krishna grew old and died too, But in an unnatural way. A hunter named <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jara<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> shot <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">an <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">arrow <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">at<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> Krishna&#8217;s leg. And the story later may have been twisted to show that it was Krishna himself who wanted <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">it. Krishna was actually cursed. Krishna killed the hunter <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jara<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> but gave him entrance to heaven. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">As per <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Skanda<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> II.ii.12.118 the hunter shot the arrow whi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">ch pierced the heart of Krishna, but as per Vishnu <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> the arrow was shot at Krishna\u2019s leg, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Vishnu <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 5.37.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">61-6<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">9<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Respecting the words of the Brahman, the imprecation of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Durv\u00e1sas<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, the illustrious <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krishn\u0301a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> sat engaged in thought, resting his foot upon his knee. Then came there a hunter, named <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jar\u00e1<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, whose arrow was tipped with a blade made of the piece of iron of the club, which had not been reduced to powder; and beholding from a distance the foot of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krishn\u0301a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, he mistook it for part of a deer, and shooting his arrow, lodged it in the sole. Approaching his mark, he saw the four-armed king, and, falling at his feet, repeatedly besought his forgiveness, exclaiming, &#8220;I have done this deed unwittingly, thinking I was aiming at a deer! Have pity upon me, who am consumed by my crime; for thou art able to consume me!&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavat<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> replied, &#8220;Fear not thou in the least. Go, hunter, through my favour, to heaven, the abode of the gods.&#8221; As soon as he had thus spoken, a celestial car appeared, and the hunter, ascending it, forthwith proceeded to heaven. Then the illustrious <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krishn\u0301a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, having united himself with his own pure, spiritual, inexhaustible, inconceivable, unborn, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">undecaying<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, imperishable, and universal spirit, which is one with <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">V\u00e1sudeva<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">abandoned his mortal body and the condition of the threefold qualities<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201d Tr. H.H. Wilson<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The following verse from <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Srimad<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavatam<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> states that though Krishna was capable of reversing the curse but he chose to accept his destiny, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Srimad<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavatam<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 11.1.23-25 &#8220;The fish was caught in the ocean along with other fish in a fishermen&#8217;s net. The iron lump in the fish&#8217;s stomach was taken by the hunter <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jar\u0101<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, who fixed it as an arrowhead at the end of his shaft. Knowing fully the significance of all these events, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">the Supreme Lord, though capable of reversing the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">br\u0101hma\u1e47as<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8216; curse<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, did not wish to do so. Rather, in His form of time, He gladly sanctioned the events.&#8221; Tr. Swami <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Prabhupada<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">What happened to his wives, family and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Balrama<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">As per Devi <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavatam<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Balrama<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> died too, and his city <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dvaraka<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> drowned in <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">ocean,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Srimad<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Devi <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavatam<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 2.28.1-23 &#8220;\u2026The high-souled descendants of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yadu<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, intoxicated by drinking wine, fought against each other and were extirpated in the presence of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kri<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 12pt;\">sn<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Balar\u00e2m<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Balar\u00e2m<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> then quitted his mortal coil; the lotus-eyed <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagav\u00e2n<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Krisna<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> quitted his life, struck by the arrows of a hunter, to pay<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">respect to a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Br\u00e2hmin&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> curse<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. Vasudeva heard of Hari&#8217;s quitting his mortal coil, and meditated the Goddess of the Universe within his heart and left his holy life. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> became very sorry; he went to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Prabh\u00e2sa<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and performed the funeral obsequies of all duly. Seeing the dead body of Hari, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> collected fuel and burnt his body together with his eight principal wives; he burnt also <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Balar\u00e2m&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> body with that of his wife <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Revat\u00ee<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, then, went to the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dv\u00e2rak\u00e2<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> city and removed all the inhabitants of the city when the whole <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Dw\u00e2rk\u00e2<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> city of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">V\u00e2sudeva<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> was drowned in the waters of the ocean<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. While <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> was taking all the persons with him after getting out of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dw\u00e2rk\u00e2<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, he felt himself very weak on the way; and <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">therefore a band of robbers, known by the name of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00c2bh\u00eeras<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> plundered all the wealth and all the wives of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Krisna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, of indomitable valour, after his arrival at <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Indraprastha<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> made Vajra, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Aniruddha&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> son, the king of the place\u2026&#8221; Tr. Swami <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Vijnananda<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Eight wives of Krishna immolated themselves into Krishna&#8217;s pyre and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">other 16100 wives were abducted by bandits<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-8922\" src=\"https:\/\/vedkabhed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Krishna-Cheerharan-245x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vedkabhed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Krishna-Cheerharan-245x300.jpg 245w, https:\/\/vedkabhed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Krishna-Cheerharan-768x940.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vedkabhed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Krishna-Cheerharan-1255x1536.jpg 1255w, https:\/\/vedkabhed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Krishna-Cheerharan-1673x2048.jpg 1673w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Vishnu <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 5.38<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">.1-11<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The 8 queens of Krishna, who have been named, with Rukmini at their head, embraced the body of Hari, and entered the funeral fire. <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Revati<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> also embracing the corpse of Rama<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, entered the blazing pile, which was cool to her, happy in contact with her lord. Hearing these events, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Ugrasena<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Anakadundubhi<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">, with Devaki and <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Rohini<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">, committed themselves to the flames<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201d Tr. H.H. Wilson<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Linga<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> section 1.69.86-87 &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krsna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> abandoned the human form under the pretext of the arrow of the hunter <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jaraka<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, and after blessing that hunter he returned to heaven. <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Due to the curse of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Astavakra<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> as also due to his own Maya (power) the wives of lord <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Krsna<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> were abducted by thieves<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">&#8230;&#8221; Tr. Board of Scholars, edited by J.L. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Shastri<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Srimad<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Devi <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bhagavatam<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 4.25.58-61 &#8220;The good-looking <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">S&#8217;amkara<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> saying these words remained silent; then <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">S&#8217;r\u00ee<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krisna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> bowed down at the feet of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Girij\u00e2<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, the wife of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">S&#8217;amkara<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. Then the Goddess <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">P\u00e2rvat\u00ee<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> addressed repeatedly to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">V\u00e2sudeva<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and said:&#8211; O mighty armed! O <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krisna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">! O best of human beings! You will be the typical exemplary householder; (all people will try to follow you). When one hundred years will pass away, your race will be extinct, due to the curse of the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Br\u00e2hmana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">G\u00e2ndh\u00e2ri<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. Your sons and the other <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Y\u00e2davas<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> will lose <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">their senses on drinking liquor; they will kill each other in the battle field and thus will be extirpated. [63-64] You should know that there can be no remedy to what will inevitably come to pass; therefore no one is to grieve for them; this is all along my view. O <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Madhus\u00fbdana<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">! After Your death, due to the curse of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\">Ast\u00e2vakra<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"> Muni, your wives will be forcibly stolen away by indomitable robbers<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. There is no doubt in this.&#8221; Tr. Swami <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Vijnananda<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">These verses state<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> that due to the curse Krishna was shot dead by the hunter and his wives were abducted by robbers. It would&#8217;ve been acceptable if Krishna took the curse on himself and freed his wives from the curse. His inabil<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">ity to remove the curse is presented<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> in these verses as Krishna respected the curse of th<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">e Brahmin and accepted it. A<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">s per Padma <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> version, it was Krishna who cursed his wives after they were <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">enamored<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> of their stepson Samba,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Padma <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 1.23.74b-87a &#8220;The Lord said: O Brahman, born from the lotus, in the same city there will be sixteen thousand wives of Vasudeva. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krsna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, the universal soul, having eyes like those of a deer, the dignified scion of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yadu<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> family, who had put the garland of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Malati<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> flowers on his head, and being adorned with his praiseworthy wives, will enjoy with them in a garden rich with flowers, and situated on the bank of a lake, in the spring season abounding in cuckoos and swarms of bees. Samba, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Jambavatl&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> son, adorned with all (kinds of ornaments), going along with the path nearby, really of the form of Cupid, will be longingly seen by the ladies and passion will be aroused in the hearts of them who will be tormented by the arrows of Cupid. He, the lord of the world, the omniscient master, having perceived it with his eye of contemplation, will say to them: &#8220;The evil being will kidnap you, since you have thus entertained the passion of love (for Samba) in my presence.&#8221; Then the revered lord, the cause of beings, the holder of the bow made of horn, being propitiated (by the ladies) tormented with the curse, will say this: &#8220;(You will observe) the vow, beneficial in the future, which sage <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dalbhya<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, emancipator of the fishermen living in the north and of an unlimited (generosity of) mind will tell you.&#8221; Saying so and leaving them, the lord vanished. Then after a (long) time when the burden (on the earth as a result of the great <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Bharatawar<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">) will be lightened and when the fight with clubs (among the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yadavas<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">) will be over, when <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kesava<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> will have come back to the heaven, when the entire <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yadu<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">-family will be no more, when even <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Arjuna<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> will be defeated by the thieves, when <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Krsna&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> wives will be kidnapped and will be enjoyed by the fishermen for a hundred million years and when they will be (thus) tormented, a devout soul, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dalbhya<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> by name, with great penance (to his credit) will come there.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> Tr. Deshpande<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Padma <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 1.23.91-121 \u201cO revered sir, all of us have been perforce enjoyed by the evil beings; we have slipped from (i.e. erred in) our duty. You are our refuge. O <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">brahmana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, you have been formerly instructed by the intelligent <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kesava<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">. Why have we become prostitutes after having come in contact with the lord? O you, whose wealth is penance, explain to us the duties of the prostitutes.\u201d I shall tell you what <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dalbhya<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Caikitayana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> said to them. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dalbhya<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> said: Formerly <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Narada<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> approached you, who were proud, while (you were) sporting in the water of the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Manasa<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> lake. All of you were daughters of Agni and were the nymphs in olden days. Not saluting <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Narada<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> through haughtiness you asked the sage conversant with deep and abstract meditation: \u201cAdvise us as to how Narayana will be our husband.\u201d From him, this boon and this curse came forth (i.e. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Narada<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> gave this boon to and pronounced this <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">curse on the ladies) in ancient days: \u201cBy giving a couple of beds with articles of gold (to a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">brahmana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">) on the twelfth day of the bright fortnight of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Caitra<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and Vaisakha, Narayana will certainly be your husband (i.e. you will obtain Narayana as your husband); (and) since, you asked me (a question) without saluting me, due to your selfish addiction to your beauty and good fortune, you will be kidnapped by thieves and will become prostitutes.\u201d Thus, due to the curse of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Narada<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and also that of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kesava<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, all of you, deluded by passion, have become prostitutes. O you excellent ladies, listen, even now, to what I shall say. The lord of lords, the best speaker, formerly said to the hundreds and thousands of thousands of the wives of the demons, the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Asuras<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> (the evil spirits\u2014enemies of gods), the sons of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Diti<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and the goblins, when these (ladies) were married and enjoyed by force (by the gods), after hundreds of the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Asuras<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and demons were killed by the gods in the war between gods and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Asuras<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> (that took place) in ancient days: \u201cO you devout and beautiful ladies, now live as prostitutes in king\u2019s residences and in temples of gods; you will obtain your livelihood from the king and the master; and all of you will have good fortune as per your capacity. He, who enters your house with the fee should be served by you with attitude of love void of deceit\u2026 At that time, he, having the five arrows as his soul (i.e. Cupid), will go (i.e. remain) near Hari. She should worship the lotus-eyed (god i.e. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Visnu<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">), followed by eulogies of Cupid. She should worship the feet (of the image of the deity saying:) \u2018My salutation to Kama\u2019; (she should worship) the shanks (saying:) \u2018My salutation to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Vaimohakarin<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u2019; (she should worship) the generative organ (of the image of the deity saying:) \u2018My salutation to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kandarpanidhi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u2026Having thus worshipped <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Govinda<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, the lord of the form of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Ananga<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">, the lady having made an offering with sandal, flowers and incense, and then having invited a Brahmana knowing customary observances, who has mastered the Vedas and who is without any deformity, and then having honoured him with adoration of sandal, flowers etc. she should give the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">brahmana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> rice of the measure of a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">prastha<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> along with a pot of ghee, (saying:) \u2018May <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Madhava<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> be pleased\u2019. She should bear in mind that the best Brahmana, who has eaten well according to his sweet will, is Kamadeva meant for Rati. The lady should do whatever the best Brahmana desires.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Padma <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Purana<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> 1.23.130b-142 \u201cThen having <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">circumambulated<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> and allowed the best Brahmana to go, she should take all (the articles) like the bed, the seat, to the Brahmana\u2019s house. Since then whosoever comes to her house for sexual enjoyment should be similarly honoured on a Sunday and should always be adored. Thus till the thirteenth month arrives, she should gratify a Brahmana and then send him to his house; with his permission (she may entertain) a handsome (person) till he arrives (to her residence). When she has a difficulty as a result of impurity due to child-birth or abortion or from the king or a difficulty due to divine or human (forces) or due to an eclipse, then she should offer herself according to her capacity, for fifty-eight times.
